Corrosion-proof commissioning of water circuits for heating and cooling

Project description

The course for corrosion-proof operation is set during the planning, execution and commissioning of a heating or cooling circuit in buildings. For this reason, four buildings were monitored during commissioning and the first few years of operation in order to identify and avoid corrosion-related risks and to develop tools for commissioning management. The water circuits were equipped with the FeQuan measuring system as part of the technical monitoring (TMon). In addition, the measuring system was improved in terms of stability and an automated detection of operating problems was developed, which is suitable for identifying corrosion risks.

Results

Corrosion-relevant influencing factors were identified above all in the areas of the quality of the filling and make-up water and the diffusion resistance of the materials used to oxygen. To ensure corrosion-proof commissioning, commissioning management based on approvals and independent monitors is mandatory for all parties involved. Key findings from the research project and the predecessor project EQM:Hydraulik were incorporated into the new VDI 6044 - Prevention of damage in cold water and cooling circuits - through membership of the committee. This rule and the existing BTGA rule 3.003 define specifications for water quality in cooling circuits for the first time.

Based on the knowledge gained, siz energieplus has developed a commissioning procedure with close and regular monitoring, which is based on the VDI 2035 and VDI 6044 guidelines, but is designed to be much stricter. It is essential that the companies carrying out the work are involved in the testing procedure by requiring approvals. Monitoring by independent third parties, whether sensor-based or not, is recommended. The client must be aware of the risk of corrosion, which is often not the case.
