Willibald-Gluck-Gymnasium (WGG)

Back to project overview
WGG - Monitoring and operational optimization of the Willibald-Gluck-Gymnasium in Neumarkt (i.d.OPf)

Project description

Implementation of a holistic innovative energy concept in the EnergyPlus standard for the school including the gymnasium as well as development and evaluation of innovative operating strategies for the school building with regard to increasing the proportion of self-generated electricity.

A comprehensive operating, monitoring and quality concept was developed for the new secondary school in Neumarkt during the planning and implementation phase and the necessary measurement technology was installed. This equipment is intended to ensure that the school is energy-efficient and comfortable. The pilot application of the "active function description" is being implemented in practice in the project as part of the use of the Energy Navigator, a web-based platform developed by the IGS in cooperation with Synavision for specification and fault detection during operation. The visualization of the recorded data is intended to make the energy performance and indoor comfort in the school building transparent to students and teachers (energy laboratory).

The project pursues the following scientific and technical objectives:
Implementation of the school incl. gymnasium as an EnergyPLUS building
Documentation of the construction and operation of the completed demonstration project with an innovative energy concept and technologies
Development and implementation of a monitoring concept for checking and quality assurance of the building's energy and comfort performance
Development and evaluation of innovative operating strategies for school buildings with a focus on
a. high energy efficiency and increasing the proportion of self-generated electricity through the combination of photovoltaic systems, battery systems and electrically operated brine-water heat pumps in the building's energy supply concept
b. Use of regenerative low-ex heat sources (geothermal energy) to heat the school building and use of innovative technologies (energy piles and agrothermal field in combination with brine-water heat pump)
c. Ensuring thermal and hygienic indoor comfort
Application and implementation of the operating strategies developed and comparison of the use of energy piles and agrothermal field to use the ground as a heat source
Establishment of an energy laboratory for the transparency of energy performance and integration into teaching
Dissemination of experience and results from planning, construction and operation
All in all, the building demonstrates the building standard of the future in an outstanding way and at the same time forms the framework for the development and evaluation of necessary innovative methods and tools for educational and public buildings.
