Energy balancing, monitoring and operational optimization of the system technology for the evaluation of the energy refurbishment of the Billing Building of the Kunsthalle Mannheim
The demonstration building Billing-Bau
The overall complex of the Kunsthalle Mannheim previously consisted of the Billing Building, the Athene Wing (both built in 1907) and the Mitzlaff Building (1983). The Mitzlaff building is currently being replaced by a new building. The Billing Building from the Art Nouveau period, which is the subject of this research project, is now one of the most important cultural monuments in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The building was erected in 1907 according to the designs of the Karlsruhe architect Herrmann Billing. It houses Mannheim's collection of classical modern art (paintings: Feuerbach, Manet, French Impressionism, German Expressionism, international modernism; sculptures: Lehmbruck, Rodin), which is important throughout Germany. The building has a net floor area of 3,274 m² and houses exhibition rooms, a library, restoration workshops, a bookbindery, offices and storage rooms.
